St Clare's – Is St Clare's a religious school?

May 4, 2024 – Rosie Lee says: I read these books as a kid and I often wondered if St Clare's was a religious school? The name alone suggests a Catholic school or convent and in the anime series the school has a chapel. There are references to the girls saying prayers or grace, but no mention of them going to Mass and there doesn't seem to be any nuns. A 1940s convent school would definitely have had nuns teaching there.
May 8, 2024 – Seana says: People were a lot more religious then and Enid's writing reflects that. There was a huge social stigma if you didn't at least pretend to practice or like Christianity. Having no religion at all? -- well, unpleasant for you and your family in many parts of the UK if it was discovered.
