The Secret Blog just got even more secret

Eagle-eyed readers might have noticed that I've updated the layout of this blog a little. Basically I picked up my stuff and moved farther down the tunnel. This is because I'm a control freak and couldn't stand to use blogger.com's system any more (for reasons I won't bore you with), so I've re-built the blog from underground up. I'm a much happier bunny now that I have full control over everything that goes on in the background.

A storm has been raging all day outside: rain rain rain, and now wind. Hopefully the rain won't come pouring down the tunnel, otherwise I'll have to shift my stuff again. But at least the rain has kept the annoying kids away. Did I mention about that? Yesterday I went exploring. Walked for ages through pitch black tunnels, shadows bouncing in the light of my flashlight (or torch to non-U.S. residents). It was pretty cold and damp. After an hour or so I heard a roaring sound that made me stop in horror. Seriously, I thought the roof was going to collapse. Turns out it was the sound of the ocean above me; these tunnels head right out to sea!

Anyway, I stopped for a bite to eat (a can of chicken and a bag of salt and vinegar chips/crisps) and was sitting there quietly when I heard noises. Couldn't make it out at first, but then I realized it was a group of kids climbing down a shaft. I hid in the shadows, as silent as possible, but I think I might have spooked them; one of the kids kept saying "Ooh, how's yer father?" and "Fusty, dusty, musty" over and over. I think he had a screw loose. After a while the kids left. The last thing I want is a bunch of noisy children interfering with my quiet contemplation, so I plan to chip away at the roof sometime and see if I can cause a tiny roof-fall, hopefully block off this tunnel for good. Hmm, on second thoughts that might not be wise. Perhaps I'd better just set up a mechanical contraption involving a large set of bellows and a big inflatable balloon, make it sound like a banshee or something. Then I can set it going as soon as I hear intruders approaching.

Gonna sign off for now. Just spotted something shiny glinting on the floor. It almost looks like a gold coin, but... it can't be, surely...

If you don't mind, I'd LIKE to know the reasons! ;-)

Anyway, I think the new layout it better. No need to scroll down endless pages for the previous post. Ace!

Yes, see, that's one of the reasons I was talking about. There were lots and lots of small reasons like that which all pointed to the fact that I didn't have the control I wanted. That's not to say my own layout is better, just better for ME, and I hope better for others. :-) I also didn't like the replies and post comment box being in a popup; I prefer it all at the foot of the relevant page. Again, just personal preference.

Your new layout is definitely an improvement over the previous incarnation, Keith. The biggest annoyance for me was the comments appearing in a pop-up window - it just seemed completely unnecessary and cumbersome.

Have you considered doing 'mini-reviews' on books from other series in your blog? For example, I'd be interested in reading your thoughts on the two remaining Brains Benton titles that have yet to be reviewed. In addition, as a huge Three Investigators collector and fan, your opinions on those stories would also be of particular interest to me.

Overall, I think 'The Secret Blog' has been a smashing success. Keep up the good work Keith!

Thank you, Ian! I really MUST email you back about Stolen Dummy; you were spot on about it being the weakest of the six. But I wanted to wait until I'd finished Painted Dragon, which I did the other night. (I'm a slow reader!)

Mini-reviews... That's a great idea, and in fact I'd kind of hit on that same idea myself but haven't managed to read any Blytons since starting this blog. But mini-reviews of other books/authors is a good idea too. Not strictly Blyton, of course, but I've come to the conclusion already that a blog purely about Enid Blyton might be a bit of a struggle!

I'll think about The Three Investigators too. There are some important comparisons to be made to some of Blyton's favorite characters...

Ian, you makes me very sad: I don't have an e-mail.

This proves of how poor no-e-mails people are. They lose so many things behind. I have tried to make an e-mail and it has 'Ooops, you have a little problem' so many times that I gave up creating an e-mail.

Well, speaking for your article, if there is ever 'secretest' word, I believe it's the exact word of what you want to tell, Keith.
