Final post to the Secret Blog

Yes, you read correctly — this is the final post to the Secret Blog. Recently, all my attention has been on writing, and on my book Island of Fog, and I've been repeating these posts over at UnearthlyTales.com. Well, quite honestly I feel like I've run the course with the Secret Blog. It was an experiment, and I enjoyed it while it lasted, but I think you'll agree that I've run out of things to say that are in any way related to Enid Blyton! I think there's only one thing worse than not having a blog, and that's having a blog that is hardly ever updated.

So this post is the last. However, this is NOT the end of EnidBlyton.net. Quite the opposite, in fact. I have plans to do some decorating on the main site, but more importantly, in the near future I'll be adding quite a bit of new content. You all know of Heather's Blyton Pages, right? Well, Heather has decided that she's not doing it justice; like me, lack of time is a big problem! So, between us, we've decided to merge the contents of her site with EnidBlyton.net. I personally don't want to lose her distinctive site design, but maybe I can somehow incorporate that into my own site. In any case it will be great to import all those photos, and all that information about artists!

There's no great hurry on this, but let me know your thoughts before I do anything. One thing is certain: the domain heathersblytonpages.com will not vanish, and I'll try to retain page filenames too, so any links to Heather's pages will continue to "go somewhere" instead of becoming dead links.

Finally — a call to anyone interested in picking up where the Secret Blog left off. My blog over at UnearthlyTales.com can now be subscribed to via Atom/Rss feed reader, or via simple email notification. It's all about writing, of course, and almost nothing about Enid Blyton! You can either go to the "Subscribe" page, or follow the "quick subscribe" link that you'll find in your latest EnidBlyton.net update notification.

Thanks, all, for your support and interest, and don't worry, EnidBlyton.net is still going strong with a pretty consistent 1100 visitors a day!

It's sad that the Secret Blog is going to end, but well, maybe it was for the better. All I can say is: it was a great success in its time, judging by the number of comments!

As for EnidBlyton.net and Heathers Blyton Pages being merged, wow! Like you, Keith, I really don't want the site's layout to finish, it was so good! However, I would like the merge, as it is a pity that such a good website of Heather's has remained un-updated for more than a year. Maybe you could update the information on there!

I'm looking forward to the coming a months -- a major change in EnidBlyton.net sounds great! :-D

When I first read the title of the post, I thought it was the end for eb.net too. Thank goodness it's nothing of that sort. I've enjoyed reading and re-reading you posts on the blog, Keith and I'm indeed very glad that you're going to continue posting news at Unearthly tales.

Merging eb.net and Heather's Blyton pages is a fantastic idea. These sites together would make one super website. I do hope that you manage to retain the original layout of both sites. I couldn't imagine either site in a totally new avatar.

Good luck with your second book.

So the water got in, the passages became flooded and The Secret Blog became The Secret Glug! It was a great idea and I enjoyed it immensley. The Secret Blog is in the past -- here's to the future! I just looked at my blog, the last item was posted in December 2008. Maybe the time has come for the Moon to set, too?

*Glug!* Yes, the tunnels are flooding, just like they did in various Enid Blyton books. But like Blyton's characters, I'll just move my stuff to another location and carry on regardless. I'm moving from a dark cave to a creepy forest, as you may have noticed on my UnearthlyTales.com site. :-)

I haven't yet set up comments to posts on the other site, but will shortly. When I do so, I think I'll transfer the comments that are relevant to the posts; in other words, because some of the posts are duplicated, it would make sense for the comments to be duplicated also. Update: All relevant comments have now been copied across!

So it'll be just like old times, y'all, only you won't have to climb down the dangerous shaft to leave a comment -- you can just leave it on the old rotting log that lies across the stream in the forest. Just make sure you weigh the note down with a heavy stone lest the wind blow it away!

Nigel, is that a cloud passing in front of the moon...?

It is a pity The Secret Blog is coming to an end. I enjoyed its contents a lot. Let me hope Heathers Blyton Pages continues being a distinct web site despite its merger with this site, after all, I mention it amongst the four hottest websites on Enid Blyton in my forthcoming book on The Famous Five.

Stephen, I'll be sure to keep Heather's Blyton Pages distinct in some way. And the domain name will continue to work, so don't worry about that.

As for the Secret Blog, if you enjoyed this then please subscribe to Unearthly Tales where I'll be continuing along the same lines. :-)
